Thanks BF - I've been trying to shake things up a bit as I was beginning to feel like some of my stuff was a bit stiff.
Here's another skull study - this time after Giovanni Civardi !

This is looking good! (I'm referring to the pastel piece!) Mind you - I like the second skull too!

Cheers Malcolm. I'm trying to escape from the cross hatching as even though I like it - some of my stuff was starting to look the same..
This one from this afternoon's session was charcoal with white chalk for the highlights.
A bit too big for the scanner so I've scanned the area I like. I might try pushing the values a little further on this one but quite like some of the shapes and after a little more playing if I like it I'll rescan and stitch together.
I'm still have a lot to learn about how different media works with different papers. This paper was a little darker and smoother than I would go for again. I've had some best results with Charcoal with really cheap childrens sugar paper although the whole thing wrinkled up when I used fixative. Trial and error I suppose...

I had a go at a quick oil sketch from life made the other day. Am fairly pleased with the likenesss although would have liked to add a little more to it. Maybe I'll have a play around and see if I can improve it.

A pleasing quick study.
Be careful when adding adjustments without a model present. All I would do to this is correct the contours of her ear and possibly mild work on her hair?

Yep, It's always a risk trying to touch things up. The backgrounds a little harsh and distracting I think. The neck anatomy needs work.
The eyes are obviously lacking form and detail but it's this kind of thing that could ruin it.
It's been quite a while so I'm still getting used to blending oils again and spent quite a bit of the 2 hours just playing with the paints !

Oh and here's an older piece I did - it's not figure drawing but thought I'd post. Pretty heavily grogged clay and it's about a couple of feet long.

Thanks Julie !
Here's another pencil sketch. Fairly heavy on the lines but I think the shapes/proportions are okay.

I've enjoyed this thread, but post some of your code so that finally there's something I can comment on ;)
(only kidding, I don't do Flash)

Thanks guys ! It's always good to hear you're on the right tracks. Looking at your own stuff it's tough to see if you're getting better.
Heh, Esoteric. I really need to do something with my site and add some of my Flash and Infographic Stuff ! I've just been using it to dump images recently but had big plans for it. I haven't even finished my theme for it yet but when you spend all day working on sites I prefer to do something totally different and just draw when I get home.

Another quick oil study. This is Michael again who was in some of my earlier drawings.

A good reason for experimenting with a CMS I guess?
I understand where you're coming from though. Since I started coding professionally I have almost entirely stopped doing it as a hobby. This sucks because I don't like the kind of coding (Delphi) I'm doing for money!
If you ever experiment with Silverlight or WPF then post your XAML here :)

Been trying to work more on tones and less on lines. Detail from a very quick life study. Just about got a likeness. Willow charcoal and putty rubber on textured white paper. Flattened a bit by iPhone photo but quite like it !
