It is great to see everyone making good use of the new gallery area. If you haven't uploaded any images yet I recommend you do so as it is an excellent way of getting your profile noticed on the new site for free.

I think it is very important for members to think carefully about the photographic images they upload to the new gallery as they can reveal a lot about your character (or perhaps worse, potentially give the wrong idea to prospective employees or put them off completely).

Tip:
flicking through the BATTLE feature (within the gallery menu) gives you an immediate reaction when one image is placed next to another. Why is one photographic image so much better than another? Think about your poses and make the surroundings as pleasing as possible. Studio and outdoor shots are of course always going to have a head start, but it is still possible to make a good effort with a homemade 'bedroom shot'. Bring a lamp into the room to create an interest in the lighting for instance. Pose in a manner that suits your bodyshape (very important for a life model). Eliminate repetitive images, they get boring.

Think about cropping your images to create a pleasing composition. If you haven't got the software I am happy to edit your images for you. Just email them to contact@lifeart.org and I will do my best with them for you.

I will shortly upload a "before and after" shot to demonstrate how to make an amateur shot look good with a bit of editing.

And remember, just because an artist may specialise in figure drawing doesn't mean that they will automatically find every image of the human body an attractive photo...

Okay then, here we have before and after pics of a typical amateur self-timed photograph.

With some artistic cropping of the awful pose and surroundings it is possible to create something that is much more artistic. The lighting is poor none the less and so the contrast has been tweaked to help compensate slightly.

Also try using the light from one of those inexpensive Halogen heaters if you have one .... You can get some really good results.

You can download quite a reasonable photo editing software for free called Picasa

Thanks Big Frog
Tomorrow I have a photoshoot with a new model. This young lady has her own twin Bowen lamps and has promised to set up everything for me. It'll be a new experience for me. In the past I have always relied on natural light. But have bemoaned the lack of deep shadows. Hopefully it'll be different this time. It's been great fun creating the storyboard I just hope I can do it justice.
I will post some of the results.
Cheers
Jack

Sounds perfect!

Hey, whilst on the subject of photos, there are still a good number of males on LifeART uploading images that will REDUCE the likelyhood of them finding work from this community. Tasteful, artistic images only please, otherwise keep your pants on. It's for your own good.

I am sorry BF, this made me splutter with laughter!!!!! (You owe me a new keyboard - only kidding ).

What you say is so true though. So many folk seem to see art-nude and think oooooo they must mean blatant genitals!!!
