Default Summer School

1. I seem to see much more life drawing activity planned during this year's summer break at various educational establishments than in previous years. I wonder whether there is a general drive to maximise use of facilities in these hard times, or whether it is evidence of growing interest in our particular subject.

Whatever the reason, continuing work in the "clothed season" is welcome.

2. Why has it gone so quiet on here? It surely can't be this wonderful weather drawing everyone outdoors.

Its not just in Nottingham, PP. Three local groups in Somerset/Wilts area, where I have had quite a lot of work, have ceased for the summer due to lack of artists. I am now scratching around trying to find anything.

Yes, it goes very quiet at times, I've gone from averaging 20hrs a week to just two hours last month and no bookings...
Been talking to artists at the local art trail and there are a lot of summer day schools planned, but all subject to getting the required numbers. Met other models at the trail and they're also scratching around for work at present.

Times are usually leaner in the summer holidays and I keep up the search for new jobs.

Summer schools look interesting but as I don't do alot of college work none of this has come my way as yet - still, we live in hope!

Here on Cape Cod we have a crazy summer season. It is very short - 4th of July thru Labor Day (the weather is excellent before and after that just happens to be our "season"). Many artists paint during the winter and in summer attend all sorts of "Art in the park" events trying to sell their work. So work around here falls off too.

I've been very lucky to have one regular drop in class I work for this summer... but that is only 1 or 2 times a month. But I did get a great gig with a private artist in his studio. 2x per week for a total of 5 hours. He is paying me like a super model (Ok not that good but a great salary). He has been involved in the arts professionally and had some joint surgery so has to lay low for a while and decided he'd concentrate for his 2 month recuperation on figure studies.

During the summer I have a small business where I design, install, and maintain gardens; English Cottage Gardens, window boxes, perennial gardens, pots, veggie and herb gardens. It pays far better then modeling but it is very physical work in the hot sun.
