Underage?

I have been life modelling now for 3 & 1/2 years. I'm 48 with a wife, son 17 and a 14 year old daughter. Remember her age! The youngest age I have modelled in front of is 16, at sixth form college and a private girls school and yes I'm CRB checked. Last week i was at the same college as above for an adult education evening class. In attendance ,I hadn't met them before, were a mother with her 13 year old daughter. An elderly guy asked me before we began if the tutor had asked me before the evening if I minded the girl attending,i answered no! I spoke to the tutor at the break and she said that she would have contacted, for example, a new model in that respect, but she didn't contact me prior to because she knows me so well now and knew that I wouldn't mind! I spoke to the mum and daughter later in the break and mum said that "uncle and aunty are painters" and that this wasn't the first time she'd painted a male in life! "She's kind of grown up with it". 25 miles to get there, about 45 minutes so I went thru with the booking. What do you guys think about all of this as i wasn't entirely comfortable with this. Ok if i do private work at mums home and i know in advance the daughter will be drawing to,that would be our private arrangement, dontthink i'd do it myself but you get my point...

hi Flo,sorry, what i meant was ...if the mother had contacted me and asked me to do private at her home with her daughter then it is up to me to say yes or no accordingly and i of course am forewarned. In this instance i was not contacted by the tutor beforehand...

I personally have attended life drawing classes from age 15, as did all the other students who studied art at my school.

It's strange that you say that you would consider it to be more acceptable in the mothers home - I would imagine it as being the other way round! Either way, the tutor was obviously wrong to presume that you would be fine with it, from the very existance of this blog entry.

I model at a school (boys and girls) for GCSE students as well as A level students.

It is very good artistically and socially, but it is in an appropriate context.

Hi John, I can understand your feelings when you are presented with this situation without any prior discussion with the tutor.I would not have wanted my child to attend an open life class with a male model at that age but things have changed over the years.I feel it is quite natural to be on a nudist beach with families and therefore many children are already more familar with nudity than in my childhood. Also at the gym fathers regularly bring daughters with them so the attitude to nudity is progressive and the days when I was often asked to wear a pouch are now thankfully history. You should have been consulted but you took the right decision not to make an issue of it with the class present.

These days the scope for misunderstandings it too high.  Personally I'd only pose for adults - purly out of self preservation.  It would just bee too easy for a well intentioned social worker with no understanding of life modeling to get hold of something like that and turn it into a full on criminal proceeding.

Something like this is much better discussed on the forum...

But anyway, I really don't see the big deal here. There is no law against non-sexual nudity in front of minors and as her mother said, she is obviously very grown up with it. I actually thought you were going to say that the daughter had previously posed for her aunty and uncle which of course would have been a very different story...

I don't see what difference your daughter's age makes to the situation either?
