ALLA PRIMA LIFE PAINTING WORKSHOP Led by artist Mark Beaven with life model Julie Moosburg 2 February 2013 , 10.00 – 16.00 Nottingham Society of Artists Studio, St Luke’s House, 71 Friar Lane, Nottingham, NG1 6DH Come and enjoy painting an “alla prima” painting from a life model! This workshop is designed to encourage a fresh and spontaneous approach to painting the nude figure in oils. Alla prima means 'at once' in Italian, in other words painting the complete picture directly from the model in one session/day, working wet on wet. Oil paints are the perfect medium for working in this loose and expressive style. Mark will provide expert guidance on composition, how to interpret and simplify your subject, choice of colours, and 'wet into wet' painting techniques using big brushes and a viscous, slow-drying medium (e.g. stand oil). This class is particularly helpful to students who wish to 'free up' their painting style, use brush strokes economically and take advantage of the inherent beauty of wet oil paint. It is aimed at artists who have some previous experience in oil painting and working from the figure. SUGGESTED MATERIALS LIST AVAILALBE ON REQUEST
Studio easels, tea, coffee and biscuits are provided – bring a packed lunch! Information and booking T: 07745 829667 E: thenewdrawingclub@fastmail . fm (remove spaces)

Sunday 11 March 2012 10.30 – 16.30 £33
I've organised another taught life sculpture day workshop in Nottingham. After two all day sessions last year working from a standing figure, we thought we'd try a seated pose for November's workshop. Some lovely sculptures were made so here's another chance to try your hand at this activity and a second chance to work from a seated figure.
The workshop will take a step by step approach to figurative sculpture, with life model Julie Moosburg and led by an experienced artist and teacher, we go from making a stable armature using wire, paper and string, through proper preparation of plaster of Paris, to building the form with scrim, sisal and plaster bandage. Full guidance is given throughout the day. Wear old clothes or apron!
Cost includes all materials and model fees For all aged 16+ (max 10 places) Tea, coffee and biscuits provided - bring a packed lunch!
